Aurora Haskap Seeds (Lonicera caerulea, Honeyberry) - Zone 3 - 30+ Seeds

Aurora is a University of Saskatchewan selection of Lonicera caerulea, also called haskap or honeyberry. Introduced in 2012 through the northern breeding program, it was selected for large blue fruit with a mild sweet flavour and an upright form. Aurora is one of the most popular haskaps for cold climates.

These seeds come from Aurora parent plants. Seedlings will not reproduce the cultivar exactly and will vary in berry size, flavour, flowering and ripening time, and plant form. Many are likely to have large fruit similar to Aurora. Growing from seed adds genetic diversity and improves the opportunity for cross pollination.

Haskap bushes grow 4 to 6 ft tall, with elongated blue green leaves and small tubular yellow flowers in early spring. The flowers develop into dark blue edible berries that resemble tart elongated blueberries. Haskaps tolerate neutral soil and are easier to grow than blueberries. Fruit ripens very early, usually in May or June. Plants prefer full sun to partial shade and tolerate harsh Canadian winters. The berries are rich in antioxidants.
