Native Hawthorn Seeds
Native Hawthorn Seeds
Pack contains: 30+ seeds
Native Hawthorn (Crataegus species) seed was collected locally from old Manitoba trees. The plants are probably Long Spined Hawthorn, Crataegus succulenta, or a related species, and some hybrid ancestry is possible.
Hawthorns are cold hardy relatives of apples and pears. Their edible fruit is used for jam and jelly, while the leaves and flowers have been used for tea. The trees also provide food and cover for wildlife.
Hawthorn seed has deep dormancy and may need a second alternating warm and cold cycle before germinating.
Cold Hardiness Zone: 3
Seed Source: Manitoba
Stratification Required: 1 to 2 months warm, followed by 3 to 4 months cold
