Our Saskatoon seeds (Amelanchier alnifolia) are collected locally from the forest around our nursery.
These native cold hardy trees have the most delicious purple berries. Fully hardy to zone 3.
Saskatoon also called Serviceberry, Shadbush and Juneberry
They ripen here at the end of June) is a small tree or bush, usually not more than 15-20' tall.
They grow well in part shade, but will bear more fruit in full sun.
On good years the trees are here can be so full of berries the branches hang with large purple clusters.
The fruit is similar to a blueberry. They're excellent to eat fresh, and also make great pies, wine, jam, etc.
Hardiness Zone: 2-3
Stratification Required: 3-4 months
Planting instructions: Plant outdoors in seedbeds in the fall, or stratify in the fridge and plant out in early spring into seedbeds or pots. Plant 1/4" deep and lightly mulch.
