These Crabapple seeds came from an unidentified family tree planted locally about thirty years ago. The parent bears reliable heavy crops without thinning and shows some resistance to apple scab.
Its one inch fruit ripens in late August, hangs on the tree, and deepens to purple by October. Oak Summit Nursery has used the crops to make many gallons of crabapple wine. The fruit can be eaten fresh but is better for processing.
Seedlings will vary in fruit size and other traits and may also be useful as rootstocks, wildlife trees, or ornamentals.
