Pembina Plum Seeds (Prunus salicina × nigra ‘Pembina’)- (Zone 3) - 12+ Seeds
Seeds from Pembina plums, a hybrid between Japanese plum (Prunus salicina) and Canada Wild Plum (Prunus nigra) introduced by the South Dakota Experiment Station in 1917. Our seeds were collected from a local orchard in southern Manitoba.
Seedlings will vary in growth habit, fruit size, and flavour while sharing some traits with Pembina and its cold hardy genetics. This variation creates the possibility of unique flavours and qualities and adds genetic diversity to an orchard or garden. New plum cultivars are discovered by growing seedlings. The trees can also be used as rootstock for grafting other plum cultivars.
Cold Hardiness Zone: 3
Seed Source: Manitoba
Stratification Required: 1 to 2 months warm, followed by 4 to 6 months cold
