Pembina Plum Seeds (Prunus salicina × nigra ‘Pembina’)- (Zone 3) - 12+ Seeds
Seeds from Pembina plums, a hybrid between Japanese (Prunus salicina) and Canadian plum (Prunus nigra), introduced by the South Dakota Experiment Station in 1917. Our seeds were collected from a local orchard in southern Manitoba. The seedlings will vary in growth habits, fruit size, and flavor and share some traits with Pembina. They will share the cold hardy genetics.
While the specific fruit characteristics are unknown, they offer the potential for unique flavors and qualities, adding a bit of mystery and generic diversity to your orchard or garden. New plum cultivars are always discovered by planting seeds. Another good option is to use them as a rootstock and graft on other plum cultivars.
