Evans Cherry Seeds (Prunus cerasus) - Cold Hardy Cherry Tree - (Zone 3) - 12 Seeds
Evans Cherry, also known as Bali Cherry, is a hardy sour cherry cultivar (Prunus cerasus) discovered in an old orchard near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in the 1920s. This cultivar is notable for thriving in harsh climates where other cherries often fail. Popularized by Dr. Ieuan Evans, the Evans Cherry produces abundant fruit despite the cold conditions of the Canadian prairies. It is an unusually cold-hardy selection of Prunus cerasus, and seedlings will produce genetically distinct trees can will vary from the cultivar but will share similar traits for hardiness and fruit quality. Good for gardeners interested in genetic diversity and growing their own cherry trees. Evans Cherry trees are self-pollinating and produce bright red fruit in July.
Cold hardiness: Zone 3
Seed Source: Manitoba
Stratification: 1 month warm followed by 3-5 months cold. Cherry seeds can benefit from a period of warm stratification, followed by several months of cold. Planting outside in the fall is a simple and effective method.
