Apricot seeds sourced from a local orchard, seeds are from trees with medium to large fruit, cold hardy and productive. The Manchurian Apricot (Prunus armeniaca var. mandshurica) is a hardy, early-blooming apricot variety known for its adaptability to cold climates. Native to the Manchuria region of Northeast Asia, this apricot produces medium-sized fruits that are yellow to orange with a slight blush of red when ripe. The flesh is juicy, firm, and sweet, with a slightly tart undertone, making it ideal for fresh eating, canning, and drying. This cultivar is particularly valued for its ability to withstand temperatures as low as -40°F, making it suitable for growth in USDA zones 3 to 7. The tree itself is often used as a rootstock for other apricot varieties, also excellent as a pollinator for cultivar apricots.
