Smooth Sumac Seeds

Smooth Sumac (Rhus glabra) is a native North American shrub found along woodland edges, in clearings, and on disturbed ground, including sites in southern Manitoba. Its compound green leaves turn orange and purple in fall.

The shrub spreads through a strong root system and is useful for erosion control and habitat restoration. Before stratification, soak the seed in hot tap water and leave it in the cooling water for 24 hours.
