Ilg 1 is a cold-hardy Alberta apple introduced by Konrad Ilg in Edmonton. Its medium-sized fruit is sweet with a little tartness and ripens around the middle of September, although the exact harvest date changes with weather, crop load and site.

Like most apples, Ilg 1 should be planted with a genetically different apple or crabapple that flowers at the same time. Mature tree size depends on the rootstock, training and pruning. Choose a sunny, well-drained site and avoid low pockets where spring frost settles.
