Black Ice Plum Tree

Black Ice is a cold hardy Wisconsin plum with Western Sand Cherry ancestry. It produces large, deep purple fruit with a blue bloom and vibrant red flesh. At Oak Summit Nursery, fruit on young grafts ripened in the second half of August, one to two weeks before local wild plums and earlier than Toka. The fruit is sweet and juicy with a gentle tart edge.

These plants are propagated on their own roots rather than grafted. Black Ice is commonly sold grafted, but its sand cherry ancestry makes own root culture a useful trial for prairie conditions.
