Ben Tirran Black Currant

Ben Tirran is a black currant bred at the Scottish Crop Research Institute and introduced in the 1980s. Its parentage comes from Ben Sarek lines selected for late ripening and high anthocyanin content.

Clusters carry medium to large berries with firm skins, deep black colour, and high vitamin C. The upright plants produce good yields, are suited to machine harvest, and show moderate mildew resistance and good winter hardiness in cold regions.
