Ben Sarek is a compact Scottish black currant that produces abundant clusters of large dark berries with a sweet tart flavour. The fruit ripens in midsummer.
Its compact size makes Ben Sarek useful where a full sized currant shrub would take too much space.
It was bred for picking by hand and released in 1983, from open pollinated seed of a Goliath × Öjebyn hybrid, and later became a parent of Ben Connan. The breeders advised picking soon after ripening because the berries do not hang long.
