Ben Lomond Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Ben Lomond')

Ben Lomond is a black currant cultivar and the first cultivar in the Ben series, released in 1972 by the Scottish Crop Research Institute. The breeding goals included improved frost resistance, high yield, and compact growth.

It is described as a mid to late season variety with large, high-quality black berries and a robust flavour for fresh eating, jams, jellies, and desserts.

Ben Lomond is also noted for frost-resistant blooms and suitability to cooler climates where late spring frosts are common.
