Wellington black currant is an old, well-established cultivar known for its robust growth and reliable fruit production. It typically forms a medium to large bush, growing to a height of 4 to 5 feet (125-150 cm) and spreading about the same width. 'Wellington' produces medium to large clusters of black berries that ripen from mid-July to early August. The berries are sweet and juicy, making them suitable for fresh eating, as well as for making jams, jellies, or wines.

Compared to other varieties like 'Ben Lomond,' which is known for its compact growth and early-season ripening, 'Wellington' has a slightly larger and more spreading growth habit and ripens in the mid to late season. It is appreciated for its versatility in both home gardens and commercial settings due to its dependable yields and good fruit quality.

This cultivar is suitable for USDA hardiness zones 3-8 and thrives in well-drained soil with regular watering. It does well in both full sun and partial shade.
