Tatarian White Mulberry is a particularly cold hardy form of Morus alba from northern China. The tree produces very sweet berries that ripen white to pink in early summer. Seedlings will include both male and female plants, so several should be planted to provide pollination and fruit.
This is the white mulberry we consider most suitable for the Canadian prairies, especially in a sheltered site with a favourable microclimate or reliable snow cover. White mulberry can behave invasively in warmer provinces and can hybridize with threatened native red mulberry populations, so it should be planted only where it is ecologically appropriate.
