Jostine Jostaberry (Ribes x nidigrolaria 'Jostine')

Jostine is a later jostaberry release than the original 1970s 'Josta', with spreading branches and slightly later ripening. It is a vigorous currant-gooseberry hybrid with dark, nearly black berries about the size of small gooseberries.

The flavour combines black currant tartness with sweet, juicy gooseberry character. The thornless shrubs are fast growing, hardy, useful in hedgerows or mixed plantings, and described as resistant to powdery mildew and white pine blister rust. Fruit matures in mid to late summer and is useful fresh, in jam or jelly, and in baking.

Jostine grows best in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil.
