Jostaberry Josta is the original 1970s jostaberry cultivar, a vigorous thornless hybrid of black currant and gooseberry. At Oak Summit, it has generally grown faster than either parent.
The deep purple black berries ripen in the middle to late part of summer. Their flavour combines sweet tart gooseberry character with the richer aroma of black currant, and the fruit is used fresh or for jam, jelly, pies, and wine. The cultivar is highly resistant to powdery mildew and white pine blister rust.
