Black Velvet is a hybrid of European Gooseberry and Worcesterberry, a form of American Black Gooseberry. It combines larger berry size with the rich flavour and dark colour of Worcesterberry.
The vigorous productive shrub bears dark purple to nearly black fruit with sweet tart flavour and has improved resistance to powdery mildew.
