Black Velvet Gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa ‘Black Velvet’)

Black Velvet is a gooseberry and worcesterberry hybrid. Worcesterberry (Ribes divaricatum) is a type of American black gooseberry. The hybrid combines the larger berry size and tartness of European gooseberries with the richer flavour and dark colour of worcesterberry.

The shrub is vigorous and productive, with dark purple to nearly black berries and a flavour that is sweet with tartness. It has improved resistance to common gooseberry diseases, including powdery mildew.
