The 'Golden Spice' pear was developed by the University of Minnesota and introduced in 1949. It has Ussurian pear (Pyrus ussuriensis) heritage. It has small, firm fruit with yellow skin and a soft red blush. Its sweet yet mildly tart flavor and crisp texture make it best suited for canning, spicing, or baking, and it can be eaten fresh. Excellent resistance to fire blight, requires a pollinator for a good fruit set.
