American Black Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) is a suckering North American shrub with black late summer fruit. The cooked berries are used for jam, jelly, pie filling, and wine and also feed birds and other wildlife.
Large flat clusters of lemon scented white flowers open from June into July and attract pollinators. The shrub can spread by suckers to form colonies.
Soak the seed for 24 hours before stratification.
