Storklas Black Currant (Ribes nigrum)

Storklas is a Swedish black currant selection that bears long strings of dark berries. Their clean juice balances sweetness and tartness and is suited to pressing, preserves, and freezing.

The compact, upright bushes keep rows tight for harvest by hand or machine. Storklas tolerates powdery mildew and leaf spot, responds well to renewal pruning in stool beds, and performs reliably in windy shelter belts and dense plantings. Grow it in full sun to light shade and fertile soil that retains moisture; yearly mulch helps hold moisture and suppress weeds.
