Öjebyn Black Currant (Ribes nigrum)

Old Swedish black currant variety raised in Öjebyn in the 1940s and widely used in northern Europe and Finland. Produces large clusters of glossy black fruit in mid to late summer. Plants are compact with upright bushes and show good frost tolerance. Fruit flavour is aromatic with a tart-sweet balance, excellent for jams, jellies, juices or fresh eating. Prefers sun or partial shade, well-drained soil but tolerates a range.
