Cold native hardy shrub with bright red branches that stand out during winter months. Leaves are medium green with smooth edges and turn reddish purple in fall. Small white berries in the summer are decorative and usually just are eaten by birds. Grows very well in well areas, often when you see a wild stand of red osier dogwood it can be an indication that the soil conditions are wet or saturated, but it can grow well in a wide range of conditions. They're planted for shelterbelts, erosion control, and wildlife habitat.
