Purple Perilla (Perilla frutescens var. crispa), also called Shiso, is an Asian culinary herb with deeply purple, serrated leaves. The leaves have a complex flavour with mint, basil, anise, and earthy notes.
The leaves are used in wraps, salads, tempura, garnishes, drinks, and many Japanese and Korean dishes. Plants reach about 24 inches.
