A cherry plum introduced by Jeffries Nursery in Manitoba as a cold hardy Prunus rootstock, a zone 3 hardy alternative to wild plum and western sand cherry. It’s a hybrid between several Prunus species, Prunus salicina × Prunus americana × Prunus besseyi, or more simply Cherry Plum x American Wild Plum.
Requires a second cherry plum or hardy plum nearby for pollination. Widely compatible with other Prunus species like plums and apricots, its our main plum rootstock at the nursery. While usually not grown for it's fruit, they're similar to Sapalta, just smaller and with a skin that's slightly more tart.
Large Plug 1YR size should be grown out for one more season to use for rootstock, they'll be large enough to bud by July/Augsust the next year or to graft the following spring.
Zone: 3
