Cherry Plum Rootstock 'Jeffchum' was introduced by Jeffries Nursery in Manitoba as a cold hardy alternative to wild plum and western sand cherry. Its ancestry includes Japanese plum, American plum, and western sand cherry. It is widely compatible with plums and apricots and is the nursery's main plum rootstock.
Jeffchum requires another compatible cherry plum or hardy plum for pollination. Its fruit resembles a smaller Sapalta, with tart skin and useful flesh, although the cultivar is generally grown as rootstock rather than for fruit.
