Aron Purple Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa 'Aron') - Zone 3

Cultivar of black chokeberry selected in Europe for its large purple black fruit and reliable production. Grows 3 to 5 feet tall with glossy dark green leaves that turn deep red to purple in fall. Clusters of white flowers in spring are followed by abundant fruit that ripens in late summer. Berries are high in antioxidants and used for juice, wine, and preserves though astringent when eaten raw. Hardy and adaptable, grows well in average garden soil and tolerates wet sites.
