Wild Red Currant 'Triste' is a low, spreading currant native to northern North America. It grows 1 to 3 feet tall in bogs, wet woodland, and stream margins. Broad, heart shaped leaves have three to five lobes and finely toothed edges.
Translucent red berries resemble cultivated red currants but are usually more sour. The fruit feeds birds and small mammals, while the low shrubs provide cover in naturalized and restoration plantings.
