Smokey Saskatoon (Amelanchier alnifolia 'Smokey') is an Alberta cultivar selected for large sweet berries and reliable crops. Seedlings are not clones and will vary in fruit size, flavour, and growth habit, although many may retain useful traits from the seed parent.

Plants usually grow as multistem shrubs or small trees and produce summer berries.

How to stratify seed

In the fridge. Put the seed in a bag with a damp medium such as peat moss, vermiculite, sand or coco coir. The medium is only there to hold moisture. Keep the bag in the fridge, above freezing, for the cold period shown, then sow.

Or outside. Sow the seed outdoors in the fall and let winter do the cold period.
