These seeds were collected from a purple leaf Prunus virginiana at our nursery that's Schubert or a seedling of Schubert. Its red purple foliage contrasts with yellow and red unripe fruit through July. By late August 2026 the fruit had darkened to deep red, later than most wild chokecherries and Garrington. In July while Garrington is fully ripe and jet black, this purple leaf variety is vibrant green, and then through August the fruit transitions from yellow - orange - red and then to a deep red. While the fruit is orange it's ripe enough to eat.
These are open pollinated seeds. Seedlings will vary and should not be considered clonal Schubert plants. Foliage colour, growth habit, fruit, and ripening time may differ.
