Red Lake cultivar profile

Red Lake is a Ribes rubrum red currant cultivar known for heavy crops of large, bright red berries. Red Lake was introduced in Minnesota in 1933, selected for berry size, cluster size, and productivity.

The berries are borne in long clusters and have a tart to tangy, slightly sweet flavour. They are useful fresh and for jams, jellies, sauces, and preserves.

Red Lake is vigorous and early fruiting, often beginning to produce within two to three years of planting. It is well suited to northern climates and Zone 3 winters.

Cold Hardiness Zone: 3
Mature Size: 3-5 ft tall, 3-4 ft wide
