started some orchard rows of plums and a block of apples. 42 plum, 24 apples so far, half are just seedlings I'll graft over. in this space there's full sun, light soil that will need some mulch, and lots of deer. it's right beside the beehives our neighbour keeps, so pollinators should be in good supply. Will need to cage or tube each tree, tomorrow's job.

Pin Cherry is a small, fast-growing deciduous tree, reaching heights of 15-30 feet with a spread of 10-15 feet. Known for its attractive clusters of white flowers in spring, it produces bright red, tart cherries in mid-summer, which are enjoyed by birds and wildlife. The tree has a narrow, rounded crown and smooth reddish-brown bark. Its leaves are lanceolate, turning bright yellow in the fall. Locally our Pin Cherries are ripe in mid to late July.
Native to North America, Pin Cherry thrives in a range of soils, preferring well-drained, sandy or rocky conditions. It is typically found in open woodlands, forest edges, and disturbed sites. This hardy tree is tolerant of cold climates and can withstand temperatures as low as -45°C. It requires full sun to partial shade for optimal growth.
Hardiness Zone: 2-6
Seed Source: Manitoba
Stratification Required: Cherry seeds benefit from a period of warm stratification. Warm stratify for 2 months followed by 3-4 months cold.
