Himalayan Mayapple Seeds - 20 Seeds

Himalayan Mayapple is a low woodland perennial with broad, deeply lobed leaves. It spreads gradually by rhizomes and produces soft red fruit containing large seeds in a pulpy interior.

These seeds come from a long established Manitoba planting believed to be Podophyllum hexandrum. Although the species is generally rated for Zone 5, this planting has survived many Zone 3 winters in a sheltered location. Its local performance may depend on site protection and snow cover, so it should not be taken as a general Zone 3 hardiness rating.

The species is native from the Himalayas into western and central China. In its native range it grows in forests, thickets, wet forest margins and high elevation meadows.
