Himalayan mayapple fruit and seed cleaning

mayapple (likely Podophyllum hexandrum) an interesting himalayan plant that grows these soft pods. it's an herbaceous perennial that seems to defy it's zone 5 rating, growing well in zone 3 southern MB in a sheltered location, likely just because of enough snow cover but a well established patch that's seen plenty of our winters, which often don't have much snow cover when the cold weather hits. So this grows a bit like other forest perennials, like wild sarsaparilla it's a low broad leafy plant. the outer part of the pods are supposed to edible, but I didn't try these ones while I was cleaning the seed. the pods break open to expose pea sized seeds in a very pulpy clingy interior. I'll glow a set in the nursery next spring, and should have enough to share some on our seed shop.
