Czech Black is a striking hot pepper with purple flowers and dark pods that mature from green to glossy black-purple and finally red. The fruit are jalapeno-shaped, usually about two to three inches long, with a mild to medium heat level in the lower jalapeno range. It works as both an ornamental pepper and a useful kitchen chile for salsa, pickling, or fresh use. Most references place maturity between about 65 days for usable dark fruit and 80-85 days for fully red ripe pods.
