Queen of the Night tomato is a dark skinned slicing type noted for its near black shoulders and balanced midseason production. This open pollinated cultivar traces to breeding work in California in the early 2010s, where anthocyanin rich lines were crossed with red beefsteak types to increase pigment expression in full sun; its exact parentage has been reported as a mix of high anthocyanin breeding stock and a standard red slicer. Fruit are medium to large with broad, smooth shoulders and a red interior, contrasting with the smaller Indigo type cherries that show similar coloration. The pigment forms only where light strikes the fruit, so shaded surfaces retain a deep red tone, which helps gardeners gauge ripeness. Plants are indeterminate with moderate vigor and set reliably in warm conditions. Compared to other dark skinned varieties, Queen of the Night holds its firmness better on the vine and shows fewer concentric cracks.
