Opalka tomato is a long red paste type from Poland noted for its slender cylindrical fruit with dense walls and low moisture. Introduced to North American seed trade in the late twentieth century through Polish American family seed keepers, it gained attention for its unusually sweet flavor compared to standard Roma types. Fruit typically reach five to six inches with a slight curve and minimal locules, giving a drier texture than the blockier San Marzano strains. Plants are indeterminate with moderate vigor and set reliably in midseason, though they benefit from support to keep the elongated fruit straight. In field conditions Opalka tends to resist splitting and maintains uniform shape across the crop.
