Common Juniper (Juniperus communis) - Zone 2 - 20+ Seeds

Widespread evergreen shrub or small tree native across the northern hemisphere, including Canada. Growth habit varies from low spreading mats to upright bushes depending on the form. Needles are short, sharp, and in whorls of three, giving the plant a spiny texture. Female plants produce berry like cones that ripen from green to bluish black and are aromatic. These cones are the traditional flavouring for gin and are also eaten by wildlife. Extremely cold hardy and tolerant of poor soils, drought, and exposed sites. Often used in naturalized plantings, rock gardens, and for soil stabilization on sandy or rocky ground.
