Ussurian pear seedlings in late summer

Oak Summit Nursery · Southern Manitoba

ussurian pear seedlings showing some of their late summer red foliage. it's one way to identify ussurian or harbin pear, especially when I've grafted it out the leaves deepen to tones of orange and red by the fall. these seedlings are a few months old, and if the conditions are right they'll get up to a grafting size for next spring. growing them in these large plug trays seems to be effective. I usually cold stratify pear seeds for two months, about twice as long as apple.
