root cellar progress
root cellar progress. so I built a DIY walk out root cellar a couple of years ago, cut into a sandy hillside, beside my greenhouse. Inside it's framed walls and posts, outside the walls are tar paper. I found out that the interior moisture is intense, it was growing mould on the walls. so to fix it, I've old school lime washed the walls. bag of lime, water = white paint that makes the wood like it's treated. then vapour barrier, so the condensation will bead down the poly. I also vent it on a timer, but basically 100% humidity in there. now that this is done, time to fill it up. 16 8ft will house 150 bulb crates about two racks of bagged bare root, all numbered and inventoried. in my opinion, it's not perfect, I have too many crates, but for this winter it will work. #backyardnursery
