Wolf River is a Wisconsin heritage apple recorded in the nineteenth century and known for exceptionally large fruit. The apples have red colour over a yellow background and flesh that holds its shape when cooked.
Wolf River is used for baking, cooking, drying, and apple butter. The fruit ripens in the middle to late part of the season.

Apples need pollen from a different apple or crabapple to set fruit. A second variety in your yard will do it, and so will a neighbour's apple or fruiting crabapple. Double flowered ornamental crabapples make no pollen and do not count.
