Wild Sea Buckthorn is a hardy, deciduous shrub or small tree native to Europe and Asia, particularly around coastal areas and riverbanks. It typically grows 6-20 feet tall with a similar spread, forming dense, thorny thickets. The shrub features narrow, silver-green leaves and produces small, yellow flowers in early spring, which develop into bright orange berries in late summer to early fall. These berries have a tart, citrus-like flavor and are highly nutritious, rich in vitamins C and E, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids.

It thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy or loamy soils, and is highly tolerant of poor soil conditions, including saline and alkaline soils. It is often used for soil stabilization, erosion control, and wildlife habitat, thanks to its extensive root system and ability to fix nitrogen, improving soil fertility. It is particularly suited for coastal or sandy sites but also adapts well to colder inland climates.  Note that Sea Buckthorn does have a spreading habit so plan for it when adding them to your landscape.
