The 'Viking' apple, introduced in 1969 by the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station, is a large, aromatic fruit with deep maroon to purple skin. Its crisp, juicy flesh offers a sweet-tart flavor with floral notes, making it excellent for fresh eating, baking, applesauce, and cider. The tree is vigorous and precocious, showing resistance to fire blight, powdery mildew, and cedar-apple rust, though it remains susceptible to apple scab.
