Selection of red flowering currant known for heavy clusters of deep red blooms in spring.  It's a popular plant in Europe, with decorative long racemes of red flowers. Shrubs can reach 6 to 10 feet tall with a rounded shape and lobed aromatic leaves. Flowers provide an early nectar source for hummingbirds and other pollinators. Small blue black berries form later in the season and are usually eaten by birds. Best in sun to part shade with well drained soil. Originates from the Twisp River region in Washington.

This is a species that's often described as zone 4-5 hardy, and it's rarely found in gardens on the Canadian prairies and so we're evaluating it at our nusery. We've found Twisp River made it through our cold zone 3 winter and -40C in good shape. If you plant in zone 3, as precaution plant in a sheltered location and use plenty of mulch in the fall.

Cold Hardiness Zone: 3/4
