Twisp River is a selection of Red Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum var. glutinosum) from the Twisp River region of Washington. Heavy clusters of deep red spring flowers provide early nectar for hummingbirds and other pollinators. Small blue black berries later feed birds.
This species is usually placed in Zone 4 or 5 and is rarely grown on the prairies. Oak Summit Nursery is evaluating Twisp River after it came through a cold Zone 3 winter near −40°C in good shape. Zone 3 hardiness remains a local trial rather than a broad recommendation.
Cold Hardiness Zone: 3, under local evaluation
Mature Size: 6 to 10 ft tall
