Summerred is an Ottawa apple introduced around 1960 from a cross of McIntosh and Red Delicious. Its medium, slightly oblong fruit is nearly covered in bright red and has crisp, very juicy flesh with mild sweetness and low acidity.
The fruit ripens in late August and is best for fresh eating or early sauce. It stores only into mid fall and is susceptible to apple scab.

More about this plant
Summerred is described with crisp, juicy, fine-textured flesh, mild acidity and good aroma. A Norwegian source reports harvest from mid to late September; this is regional context rather than a Manitoba prediction. The same source reports susceptibility to apple scab and fruit-tree canker. A conflicting origin account in the packet is not projected, so the existing catalog history is unchanged.
