Russian Olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) is a fast growing nitrogen fixing tree with silver green leaves and shaggy bark. It tolerates drought and poor soil and can be grown as a small tree or hedge. Oil from its fragrant flowers has been used in perfume.
Before stratification, soak the seed in hot tap water and leave it in the cooling water for six hours.

How to stratify seed
In the fridge. Put the seed in a bag with a damp medium such as peat moss, vermiculite, sand or coco coir. The medium is only there to hold moisture. Keep the bag in the fridge, above freezing, for the cold period shown, then sow.
Or outside. Sow the seed outdoors in the fall and let winter do the cold period.
