Russian Olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) is a fast growing, nitrogen fixing tree with silver green leaves and shaggy bark. It tolerates drought and poor soil, responds well to pruning, and can be grown as a small tree or hedge. Oil from its fragrant flowers has been used in perfume.

Plants reach 15 to 20 ft tall. Before stratification, soak the seed in hot tap water and leave it in the cooling water for six hours.
