Laxton's No. 1 is an old English red currant cultivar bred by Laxton Brothers in the early 1900s. The medium sized bushes have good vigour and productivity, producing long trusses of bright red berries in mid summer. The fruit has sharp tart flavour suited to jelly, preserves, and baking.
Laxton's No. 1 is a reliable cropper grown in Europe for generations and remains valued in heritage collections and home gardens.
