Garden Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a hardy, woody perennial known for its silvery-gray, velvety leaves and earthy, aromatic scent. Native to the Mediterranean region, this member of the mint family has been cultivated for centuries, with records of its use dating back to ancient Rome. Growing 18 to 30 inches tall, sage forms a compact, bushy clump, producing spikes of lavender to blue flowers in late spring, which are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. Its evergreen foliage adds year-round texture to gardens, making it a popular choice for borders, rock gardens, and container plantings. Resistant to drought once established, it prefers dry conditions and good air circulation to prevent mildew. Deer-resistant and low-maintenance, garden sage is a classic addition to both ornamental and culinary gardens. Can be grow as an annual herb, or a perennial in USDA zone 4.

Cold Hardiness: Zone 4
