Frontenac Blanc (Vitus x hybrid) - White Grape - Zone 3
Frontenac Blanc is a resilient white grape variety born from a natural mutation of the cold-hardy Frontenac grape, developed at the University of Minnesota in 2012. This exceptional cultivar is ideal for cold climates, thriving in temperatures as low as -35°F (-37°C). Its yellow to golden-skinned grapes mature in late September and are known for producing aromatic white wines with notes of citrus, pineapple, and tropical fruits.
The vines are vigorous and high-yielding, well-suited for both home vineyards and commercial wine production. In addition to table wines, Frontenac Blanc can be harvested later for specialty ice wines.
Note in cold climate it's advisable to add some winter protection for young grape vines while the get established.
