Freedom is a McIntosh descendant with Malus floribunda 821 in its lineage, released in 1983 for disease resistance. The medium to large mostly red fruit has a mild sweet and subacid flavour and ripens from the middle to late part of the season.
The vigorous trees have a spur bearing habit, immunity to apple scab, and some resistance to powdery mildew and cedar apple rust.

For reliable fruit set, grow a genetically different apple or crabapple that flowers at the same time. Bloom overlap at your site is the final compatibility check.
