Empire is a New York apple from a cross of McIntosh and Red Delicious, released in 1966. The medium dark red fruit has firm, fine textured flesh and a balanced sweet tart flavour.
The apples ripen in the middle of the season and store for two to three months. The productive trees have moderate resistance to apple scab but can be prone to fire blight in humid sites.
